Starting a Movement

By New Churches Team

What Makes a Movement?

There are a lot of things that make movements work. If you do open heart surgery on movements that are experiencing rapid multiplication, they include the following:

  1. As seen in Acts, people pray and God moves.
  2. Networks relate to movements in the same way that small groups relate to churches. A healthy, growing, multiplying church is made up of healthy, growing, multiplying small groups. Networks are made up of churches and pastors who come together to learn and multiply.

Considerations for Dual-Affiliations

You can affiliate for a lot of reasons – support, encouragement, networking, coaching. Let’s affiliate to multiply. You aren’t likely to multiply on your own because you need the encouragement of others. It’s great to have multiple affiliations as long as you are planting more churches and reaching more people.

Be careful though, because it is easy to get stretched too thin. We all have a limited amount of time, and you have to decide what is best to commit to. Consider dedicating five hours of your time each week to collaborating toward seeing Kingdom movement in your city. Don’t make it something you squeeze in. Make it part of your job description.

Starting a Network

Catalyst communities are started by pastors in locations without existing networks. New Thing is looking for influential pastors in a city or region that love the vision of multiplying and church planting and want to do it with other churches where there are no existing structures.
